Singer, fiddler, and songwriter Kenny Feinstein releases his haunting new single “Suicide Blues,” a stark reinterpretation of the lonesome ballad penned by bluegrass legend David “Stringbean” Akeman. Originally made famous through Stringbean’s raw delivery, Feinstein’s version captures the same Appalachian sorrow with a modern edge. Recorded with front-porch intimacy, “Suicide Blues” bridges decades of roots tradition and today’s dark folk revival. Listeners will hear echoes of Ralph Stanley’s mountain laments alongside the grit of modern troubadours like Tyler Childers.

The recording features a powerhouse ensemble of acoustic musicians: Jake Eddy (guitar, vocals, producer), Carter Eddy (bass), Ron Stewart (banjo), and Josh Gooding (mandolin). Feinstein is best known as the founder of Water Tower, a band celebrated for blending old-time bluegrass with punk rock and indie-folk energy. His solo work, however, strips everything back, spotlighting his gritty voice, fiddle playing, and reverence for traditional songcraft. With “Suicide Blues,” Feinstein once again proves his ability to carry forward the Appalachian tradition while fearlessly connecting it to new generations.
